A Study on the Effects of Ethanol upon Blood Components in Rats

Abstract
White rats were given 20% or 40% ethanol by catheter through mouth, in a dose of 0.6 gm/kg (group A), 1.8 gm/kg (group B), and 4.8 gm/kg (group C), periods from I to 30 days. The following results were obtained;
1) In blood alcohol concentration, all groups were found to normal levels after 24 hours given alcohol.
2) In blood triglyceride concentration, all groups were increased but group C shown an early lag period (no increased).
3) Blood GOT level was increased in all groups, but GPT was not increased in a groups.
4) In blood total lipids concentration, all groups were increased during 2nd to 7th day.
5) In blood protein fractions, albumin was decreased on 5th, 20th - 30th day in group C, and others were decreased on 30th day. The ? 2-globulin was significantly increased on all experimental days in group C, and others were slightly increased during periods from 20th to 30th day.
6) Liver alcohol dehydrogenase activity was increased in all groups.
